In our lifetimes we’ve come to know democracy as a tool by which to vote for politicians. That wasn’t the original idea.
The original idea was to have people vote on an issue and the majority would rule and the decision would be made.
Since then politicians emerged to hijack that concept. The idea was that they would “represent you” Charlatans of course, since they could never represent everyone. They would promise to represent you anyway, but never actually would of course.
However this became what we think of today as “Democracy” and so today it is a dirty word, connected with voting for politicians.
